For several years, Toruń has been particularly proud of a modern and multi-functional sports and event hall – Arena Toruń. Although the facility is used by the representatives of various disciplines, particular importance is placed upon athletic events. The hall has a permanent 200-metre race-track and other facilities allowing for the organisation of athletic competition a highest local and international level. It is Arena Toruń where the 10th European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor took place in 2015.

Every year, the hall sees an international athletic meeting called Copernicus Cup, now included in a prestigious cycle of events – IAAF World Indoor Tour (indoor counterpart of the Diamond League). Thus, it is one of the five most important indoor athletic meeting in the world. The competitors include the biggest athletic celebrities. Those who took part in the event so far were for example: Genzebe Dibaba, Tomasz Majewski, Kim Collins, Mohamed Aman, Adam Kszczot, Timothy Kitum and Pavel Maslak. The city applied for organisation of World and European Championships for Masters.
